The Georgia banker who killed himself after being arrested at the violent Capitol Hill siege in Washington DC last week has been described by one friend as a 'dedicated family man'.

Christopher Stanton Georgia, 53, shot himself dead at his home in Alpharetta on Saturday morning. The father-of-two was found with a gunshot wound to the chest and died by suicide, The Fulton County Medical Examiner confirmed Tuesday.

High school friend Ashley Gunnin told DailyMail.com Wednesday: 'I am deeply saddened by his death. I hope he can be remembered as the man who loved his family and his daughters dearly.

'The Chris I knew was nothing like what we have been watching out of DC on tv for a week. Nothing. He loved his family and daughters.'

Georgia worked as a regional portfolio manager at BB&T bank, online records show. DailyMail.com has reached out to the company for comment.

Georgia was found by his wife on Saturday morning, who told the cops there was "blood everywhere."

His body was found in the basement of their home in Alpharetta, Georgia.

Georgia had been charged with attempting to "enter certain property, that is, the United States Capitol Grounds, against the will of the United States Capitol Police," prior to his death.

Court documents show that Georgia stayed out past the 6pm citywide curfew after officers told them to leave around 7.15pm.

Georgia faced a maximum penalty of up to 180 days in jail and/or a $1,000 fine.

His former mother in law said: "He wasn't political at all then that I remember but that was not a political time, times have changed.

She added she was "glad" not to have to see Christopher again after her daughter left him and the marriage was dissolved after less than a year.

"After a year or even less the marriage was annulled and we never saw him again," she said.

"I'm thrilled my daughter could see she had made a huge mistake.

"We didn't think he was the right person for her to marry, she was just out of college and I thought he was a very bad influence on her."

Georgia is believed to have stopped selling hairpieces in the 90s and began a career in finance.
