Witnessing a person throw themselves in front of your truck is also something that can lead to depression and the whole gamut of negative emotions associated with it, including suicidal thoughts. But I doubt he considered that. Ironic, in a way.

I agree. The guy could lose his job and CDL thus fucking up his family. I am usually sorry for people who feel their only option is to commit suicide. The whole note seems spiteful. Why would you use this person as a pariah over the thousands of transgendered, who are also depressed and thinking of suicide? Those who resist the urge and are brave enough to withstand social stigma and work for transgendered rights should be applauded not someone who took the easyway out because her friends did not like her and her parents were religious zealot assholes.

We have an obligation to our children to give them tools to survive. There will always be bullies and selfish people. You have to explain to your kids that you have to be true to yourself because you don't choose whom you love but having the support of everyone will be difficult. A parent has to give armor to their kids instead of raising spoiled, ungrateful idiots without respect for others. Being Gay does not mean you're not ethical or religious, it means you are human and loving and worthy. Respect runs both ways, and we need to take care of one another.

That's kinda a really fucked up way to go out. The suicide, and making certain that everyone knows you did it to hurt your parents.
She was 17. She could have legally just moved out and never talked to her parents again. I say she. But I don't know what to call it.

Yes I do not like how the parents handled this and in general people need to stop treating others as if they know how they should be happy.

This teen should not be held to martyr status, every bit of that note reads of temporary issues that could have been fixed with any minuscule bit of strength of will. They had already gone through 10 years of this what is one more before being considered a legal adult and was capable of going on their own to forge their own life away from this even if it would be difficult that is what you do if you truly feel it is important to you.

This sends a bad message to others in similar positions. Most likely there are many many more that have endured much worse than this teen and have survived and are living as they wish to. Having another statistic like this and especially now that it has gotten media attention can only harm others.

This teen could have done many more things than ruin the life of a truck driver just trying to do his job. If they truly cared about other transgenders they would have donated what they could without the melodrama note and suicide or become a positive activist in their community. I have no sympathy for this teen.
