Police are appealing to the mother of a newborn baby whose body parts were found on a common in London to come forward.
Two legs from a child, thought to have been born in the previous two weeks, were found near an area of Tooting Bec Common popular with families.
Officers made the grim discovery after they were called to Doctor Johnson Avenue in southwest London at around 8am on Monday.
A post-mortem examination carried out at Great Ormond Street Hospital has failed to establish a cause of death.
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "The baby is white but the gender has not been ascertained.
"We have serious concerns for the mother, or parents, of this child and would urge them to come forward and speak to police or seek medical aid.
"We would also like to appeal to those that work in the medical or caring professions who may information about the possible identity of the mother or child."
The area where the body parts were found is about two miles from St George's Hospital in Tooting.
No arrests have been made and detectives are continuing to search the area for further remains.
