British holidaymakers last night told of their terror after their plane’s engine burst into flames.
Passengers heard an explosion and saw an engine ablaze on the Jet2 flight from Ibiza to Manchester. The Boeing 738, which was carrying 186 people, made an emergency landing in Palma, Majorca.
One passenger posted online: ‘Most terrifying moment of my life! So glad to be home safe in the Isle of Man.’
Another wrote: ‘I’m not the best flyer anyway but when I heard those noises and looked out the window to see flames coming out of the engine, I can honestly say I was terrified!’

The drama was witnessed by tourists on beaches below. One wrote: ‘On the beach at Figueretas hearing loud popping noise and see the right-hand engine on fire.’
Flight LS170 took off at 11.39am on Thursday and landed at Palma 77 minutes later. The airline said the plane had suffered ‘a technical problem’.
Understandably, a few of the passengers suffered panic attacks during their ordeal, but there were no reports of serious injuries.

Nevertheless, the terrified 180 passengers and six crew were forced to endure a 77-minute flight after the pilots shut the engine down.
Witnesses on the ground said they came out of their homes and looked into the sky because of the repetitive noise.
One said: 'At first we thought fireworks were being launched and turned around to see the plane. I can only imagine what it sounded like inside.'
A YouTube clip shows the plane flying overhead as its engine sputters and booms before the pilots shut it down.
The flames and the sound of the misfirings can be clearly seen and heard from the ground.
