A terminally boy died in the arms of a Santa Claus who granted his final wish to see the much-loved Christmas character.

Eric J. Schmitt-Matzen told USA Today about the heart-breaking moment a five-year-old boy died in his arms.

The 60-year-old Santa doppelgänger, who was born on Saint Nicholas Day, explained how he rushed to a hospital in Knoxville, Tennessee, after a desperate phone call from a nurse about a seriously sick child.

He entered the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit to see the boy, who was desperate to meet Santa, as his family watched the tear-jerking encounter through a window.

The pair chatted for a while and Santa told the boy he was his “number one elf!”. Tragically, it was the last conversation the boy had.

“He kinda sat up and gave me a big hug and asked one more question: ‘Santa, can you help me?’” he revealed in an interview with USA Today.

“I wrapped my arms around him. Before I could say anything, he died right there. I let him stay, just kept hugging and holding on to him.”

He continued that he left the hospital as “fast as he could”, adding that he thought he would “never be able to play the part again” as a result of the emotional toll the gut-wrenching experience had on him.

The one constant in life i guess.
The poor kid died after meeting whom in his eyes was real...Santa!
He died a happy child is the only plus i guess.

He was on the news this morning with tears rolling down his face . A great story indeed .
