Tenn. Mom Suspended for Taking Marine Son's Call

A Tennessee woman was suspended from her job for three days when she answered her cell phone on the job — to take a call from her son, a Marine stationed in Afghanistan.

The business, Crane Interiors, has since apologized and says Teresa Danford will be paid for the work she missed.

Danford tells WTVF-TV in Nashville that she knew about the company's cell phone policy. However, she says she didn't hesitate to answer the call at work because her son, Lance Cpl. Mark Ryhne, has access to a satellite phone only once a month. She says managers had threatened to fire her if she violated the policy again.

Crane general manager Chris Anderson says the company has apologized to Danford for the situation. The TV station first reported Danford's suspension on Thursday.

I know rules are rules, but once a month to talk to your child who is at war, should be overlooked.

Why should this woman get special treatment?

It is not special treatmernt FOR NO REASON...It is a CONSIDERATION for the circumstance.

Personally, I consider having a son in a war zone a special circumstance. teh corporation apparently came to that conclusion also.

It's not special treatment. If ANYONE has a situation where their child or loved one is in danger every second of the day and can only call out once a month, they should be allowed to take a few moments out of their shift to speak with them. It's hard enough on the ones here to miss calls from their loves ones over there, but it destroys the men and women over there when they get one short call and there is no answer.

I agree, I just think maybe she should have gone to management beforehand and explained the situation. Rules are rules and if you don't like them, don't work there. Personaly, I refuse to work for companies like that.
