THE mother of a teen stabbed in the neck outside his home last night appealed for calm amid rumours that the killing was a race attack.

Danny O’Shea, 18, died despite his stepdad Jim Blewitt, 53, trying to save him after black youths chased him for around 300 yards.

But mum Julie Brewer, 53, spoke out after Twitter and Facebook messages claimed it was racially motivated.

She said: “We don’t know why such a terrible thing happened, but we do know is it is not racially motivated.

“Danny was popular, with friends from all cultural backgrounds. We do not want to see any local retribution.”

Det Chief Insp John Macdonald said: “The people chasing him were black but I reinforce the family’s *position that there is nothing to suggest it was racial.”

A 43-year-old man was last night being quizzed over Friday’s murder in Canning Town, East London, by police, with more arrests expected.

In the British media, black/asian/etc on white are "never racist". Nor was the time a young white boy in Glasgow who was chased and burned alive by black youths around the same time Damiola Taylor was killed. But you didn't hear of that in the national news, just a brief mention on Ceefax

By what some people on LJ say: no one can be racist against white people because we're the superior race. If you think someone is racist against you because you're white, it's called "white whine."

Indians and Pakistanis hate each other, groups within black races don't like each other but hey, that's okay. Only whites are racist!

from my personal experience of when i lived in hong kong i interacted with a lot of chinese, korean, thai, vietnamese, burmese, south koreans, japanese, indians, pakistanis and people from the phillipines, and i have to say that oriental asians are the worst racists out there.

cantonese people were really racist against whites, dunno if that was because of the treatment they got under british rule though. because a lot of chinese movies had british sailors mistreating locals, which was based on truth from the older colonial days.

race crimes are considered "hate crimes" here in US and penalties are much harsher.

I live in US, was being smartass. I think they've created something anti-bill of rights/consitutional with "hate" crimes, someone with different outlook on life is therefore less "equal" under the law and subject to harsher punishment?

Violence is violence and is unacceptable for any reason save self-defense, I want people that hurt me to go to jail for the same amount of time regardless of why they did it. I would actually feel less angry towards a racist person though, even my mentally retarded aunt (Down's Syndrome) wasn't stupid enough to judge people based on color.
