Just months before, Danae Rodriguez saved her father, Tim Ebert, after her family suffered a near-fatal car accident on the way to the Minneapolis Airport.
The two became close during throughout his months of rehabilitation and when the time came for Ms Rodriguez to chose a beau for high school's biggest night, she chose the most important man in her life.
'She was my angel,' Mr Ebert said to the Fergus Falls Journal. 'She saved my life.'
On December 13, Mr Ebert was driving his family to the Minneapolis Airport catch a flight to Key West, where they were scheduled to attend the wedding of Ms Rodriguez's sister, Jenny.
The front passenger tire blew, causing the car to flip four times before finally crashing to a halt, according to the Fergus Falls Journal.
Ms Rodriguez saw that her father was seriously injured; his neck was broken in several places and he had a large cut on his head that was bleeding profusely.
Registered nurse Karen Ebert, Ms Rodriguez's mother, was in the backseat but luckily sustained only minor injuries.
Ms Rodriguez acted fast, grabbing pillow casings from the back of the car and packed Mr Ebert's wound until help arrived.
Mr Ebert's injuries required him to spend several weeks in St. Cloud hospital and later in PioneerCare Rehabilitation, but Ms Rodriguez made sure she was always by his side.
When prom season rolled around, she knew who she wanted to spend the evening with.
She donned a black sequin gown and he wore a tux as they posed for photos before heading off to get ice cream with their entire family.
'I was honored to take my beautifully stunning daughter to her Senior Prom,' Mr Ebert wrote on Facebook. 'I am blessed.'
The two also wore matching flower corsages, made from bent wire.
Mr Ebert joked that this was his fifth appearance at a prom, but by far, this was the greatest night.
'She made a lot of memories that she will remember the rest of her life,' Mrs Ebert said. 'I was really touched.'
