Teen-aged boy posed as ob/gyn for a month in Florida hospital

Doogie Howser, M.D., you’d better watch your back. A teen-aged boy in West Palm Beach, Florida was busted on January 13 after somehow posing as a doctor at St. Mary’s Medical Center for a month. To make it even worse? He was reportedly pretending to be an OB/GYN.

The teen reportedly walked the halls of the hospital with a white St. Mary’s lab coat from the anesthesiology department, a stethoscope, and a face mask. One of the hospital’s security guards informed police that the teen is known around the hospital as a ‘doctor’, and he’d been there for about a month. A different security guard told police that she’d seen the teen access secured areas of the hospital, and they’d even seen him enter from the parking lot. They found what they believe to be his car, complete with a white lab coat on a hanger in the back seat.

It all came to an end when one of the hospital’s resident OB/GYNs, Dr. Sebastian Kent, found him in an exam room with a female patient. Kent said that the teen introduced himself as “Doctor Robinson”, and remained in the room while he began to examine the patient. Kent told reporters that he first thought “I am really getting old because these young doctors look younger every year.” Kent found something off about “Doctor Robinson’s” claimed medical training. After the exam, he also found a note on his desk from “Doctor Robinson” asking to shadow him for training. According to a copy of the police report obtained by the Smoking Gun website, the note was apparently signed using a name that is another identity the teen uses.

Kent called security on “Doctor Robinson”, and they called police. When police arrived, they cuffed “Doctor Robinson” and took him outside while they waited on his biological mother to arrive. The teen’s mom informed police that he was under a doctor’s care for an undisclosed illness, and had refused to take his medication.

Police reviewed the security videos from St. Mary’s Medical Center, and found that while the teen had been walking around the hospital for a month, they did not see any evidence of criminal wrongdoing. While the video reportedly shows that he did enter patient rooms on occasion and speak with hospital employees, they have determined that he did not actually examine a patient or attempt to practice medicine. They also determined that he did not access any restricted medical files. The police and hospital staff have chosen not to charge the teen with any crimes.
