Tamer Attacked by a Tiger During a Show at the Circus
A 31-year-old tamer, Ivan Orfei, was bitten and injured by a tiger during a show organized by the "Amedeo Orfei" circus. It happened in Surbo, in the province of Lecce. The man was taken to hospital in serious condition after being attacked by the animal while he was performing in the center of the tent. The show involved two tigers and the animal that at that moment found itself behind the tamer bit Orfei. Conducted in red code by ambulance to the emergency room of Vito Fazzi in Lecce, Ivan Orfei suffered deep wounds to the neck and leg. He's not in danger of life. |

Re: Tamer Attacked by a Tiger During a Show at the Circus
I often hear stories about how circuses will mistreat their show animals, things like this are always a ticking time bomb waiting to happen. |

Re: Tamer Attacked by a Tiger During a Show at the Circus
"It was my mistake. I turned from behind and turned abruptly but at that moment the animal wanted to play. The tiger is the most playful of all and requires the most attention". Thus Ivan Orfei, the 31-year-old tamer bitten and wounded by a tiger during a show organized by the 'Amedeo Orfei' circus in Surbo, in the province of Lecce, from the hospital bed - tells - the dynamics of the attack. "The tiger will stay with us, we will stop maybe for a couple of days but the shows will resume and continue until January 15 as initially planned", explained the man's mother instead. Ivan is still hospitalized in Lecce. "My son is in good condition , the doctors are keeping him under control but we are all calm because he will return to us shortly," added his mother. They should ban circuses to avoid animal mistreatment |

Re: Tamer Attacked by a Tiger During a Show at the Circus
That tiger was going for his ankle before he started turning, so the turn did not provoke anything. Probably what the trainer meant was he should have kept an eye on that tiger. The trainer was staring down the performing tiger when the other one snuck around behind him. That is a typical move when housecats play with each other. One tries to sneak up and launch a secret attack when the other is distracted. I expect tigers play the same way. If that was an angry attack from behind, the trainer would not have survived. |
