Tales of the one that got away are commonly told by fishermen following a particularly tough day on the water.

But one angler had a rather more exciting story to tell after he caught one fish attempting to eat another while fishing on Lake Austin in Texas.

Fly fishing fanatic Tim Romano shared a video of the bizarre incident on his blog after a friend sent him the clip of the largemouth bass dining on its catch of the day.

The fish can be seen attempting to swallow the similar sized fish before the man separates them and releases them back into the water.

‘I love a good day of fishing for bass,’ he explained. ‘You know it’s all good and really warm weather is on the way when Mr. bucket-mouth starts chomping.

‘That’s why I had to share this video one of my friends sent me the other day. I’ve seen bass eat some crazy things, like birds, snakes, obviously other fish but this one has to take the cake.’

The video has racked up over 500,000 hits on YouTube, however users remain divided about the clips authenticity.

‘Looked realistic, Bass will eat anything that it can fit in it’s mouth right,’ said one.

However another added: ‘Fake…he probably put the fish inside the fish before then put them in the water pretending he caught them without a line.’

The two fish are not the only aquatic animals to hit the headlines recently after a video of a fish with human teeth went viral last month.

Yeah, not fake at all. Ive' seen a few similar situations with different breeds of fish up here In Canada. Although it's not 100 percent real, as there is no dominant proof, I would give the benefit of the doubt and say it's a real story.

It is 100% authentic. Fish won't try to swallow something just cause you jam it in thier mouth. They must be in feeding mode. There is no way this is a staged incident.
