Superhero Capes for Job Seekers....
A program that has been giving out superhero-style capes to unemployed Central Floridians is now the focus of a state investigation. According to the Orlando Sentinel, labor officials have begun looking into Workforce Central Florida's "Cape-A-Bility Challenge." The public relations campaign, which urges "caped crusaders" to help the organization fight "Dr. Evil Unemployment," costs $73,000. Part of that campaign provides about 6,000 people looking for work with capes. Workforce Central Florida defended the program, saying the capes lift people's spirits and do not waste money, an allegation the report said was made by Florida's Agency for Workforce Innovation. "The money for the capes is unrestricted funds, so none of the money for the campaign in any way would ever affect people's unemployment check, or anything like that," said Kimberly Sullivan, with Workforce Central Florida. The state agency does not have direct control over Workforce Central Florida's daily operations, but it does oversee some of its spending. http://www.baynews9.com/article/news...waste-of-money |
