Ummm.......actually alcohol WAS banned at one time, it was called Prohibition. That is how things like speakeasy's, bathtub gin, rum running and the growth of the Italian Mafia through illegal alcohol sales came to be. If you but down the bong and read a book once in a while you would know this.
