A Strange Death

Not sure where to put this as I don't have a gory picture just a strange and sad story.

My friend's adult son died this morning after inhaling 'chemicals' at 3:45am in his garden. I'm stunned but curious to know what kind of chemical is potent enough to kill you outdoors (as opposed to in an unventilated place) he was apparently heating them up.

A man has died after a chemical incident at his home in south London.

The man, 36, fell ill after "coming into contact" with chemicals at home in Carshalton Road in Mitcham at around 3.45am.

He was rushed to hospital in a critical condition and died a short time later.

A spokesperson for Scotland Yard told ITV News London that the man's death is being unexplained and inquiries are ongoing.

No other person is believed to have been affected by the chemicals, the spokesperson added, dismissing fears that the wider public could be at risk.

Re: A Strange Death

It's easy if you're intentionally making an effort to inhale them, in order to get high.

Re: A Strange Death

Many household chemicals can cause death, especially if you mix them together. Some can go off noxious gasses that can kill you quickly.

Re: A Strange Death

I'm very curious about the specific chemicals. Bleach and ammonia is a common poisonous combination made by mixing household chemicals, but I don't think it's too likely he was cleaning at 4am.

Re: A Strange Death

Hydrogen chloride (Bleach, ammonia, water) could quite easily burn the interior of a persons throat if inhaled and result in asphyxia. If then mixed with hydrochloric acid, the resulting fumes would be extremely dangerous. But then you'd have to be an idiot to try that.

And people using Speedballs (coke + heroin).

Not to mention Meth users.

It's usually not fine upstanding citizens that end up dead from inhaling poison gas at odd hours.

But who knows.

Re: A Strange Death

He was a troubled man and yes, I do believe drugs have been involved at some point. From what I've been told he was heating something up.... Can you get a hit from a less than lethal dose of cyanide?!?!

As far as I have learnt he possibly died of cyanide poisoning. Awaiting autopsy results and inquest.

Re: A Strange Death

I was going to say cooking meth as well. Suicide is the other likely explanation. They did stress "came into contact with" as if they were trying to go easy on the speculations.

Yes, I noticed that too, I thought it a little odd. I guess the post-morten and inquest will reveal all.
