Re: Stonehenge Researchers Discover Site is Much Larger Than Previously Thought
I remember reading about the spots turning brown and looking like where stones would have been. Nice to know more came from that. Kind of weird to have some of the Stonehenge mystery solved, but at the same time, it seems to add a bunch of new questions.

Re: Stonehenge Researchers Discover Site is Much Larger Than Previously Thought
It's crazy how fast ground mapping technology has progressed. Not that long ago, GPR had to be walked across the area, being placed on the ground at one second intervals. The resulting 'map' was dubious at best, and the only way to know if the anomaly was anything important was by digging a test pit. It was usually nothing lol. These maps are so good, there's little to no doubt about where there are archaeological features. It's really exciting stuff, I'd love the chance to do a bit of excavation there! |

Re: Stonehenge Researchers Discover Site is Much Larger Than Previously Thought
I remember spending hours with a gravimeter just trying to get it level....and ripping my shoulders up with the magnetometer. Undergrad Field class. Now, theres so much remote sensing, I have to constantly take courses on new equipment. |
