Re: Star Trek: Voyager’s ‘Kes’ Charged with Exposing Herself to Children
She left acting in order to return to college and to raise her (then) young son. So it was a conscious decision as opposed to one forced upon her. It is my understanding that she has suffered quite badly from social anxiety in the past and it's likely that her affliction continues, possibly with the additional influence of drugs, either in a self medicating context or prescribed. The sands of time wait for no man or woman, so of course ageing is also a factor. However, the input of drugs and/or alcohol isn't going to help matters. Shame really, because I'd loved to have fired my photon torpedo into her worm hole, back in the day. |

I can imagine. Having what you think is a promising career. Working on a popular project. Then *in my profession* this is what happens. Tech changes. New and upcoming specialists....competition. If you didnt keep up with the new technology and methods...YOURE OBSOLETE. So yeah.....shes probably ready to go play in traffic. |

Conscious decision, but still the loss of "celebrity" can be tough on anybody. In my profession, we have these "rock star tech babies" as we call them. Talent out the wazoo. Then they may or may not decide to take another career path, but so many get depressed once the attention is off them. |

Re: Star Trek: Voyager’s ‘Kes’ Charged with Exposing Herself to Children
That's the story she told her family and friends and eventually herself. It's probably 100% false. Hollywood is very fickle. People can 'love' you and still 'love' you. You can be 'up' for a while or even a very long time and then... You are OUT! No warning. No hint of trouble. No preparation. Not necessarily because of anything you did or didn't do. Just the vicissitudes of Life. No one handles this well. This is the same experience that Jesus had on the cross. He had the mojo going for a few years and then...NOTHING. Total. Complete. Absolute. Abandonment. "And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?" - Matthew 27:46 There has never been anyone born that can handle that experience with aplomb. |
