Stampede Kills 100 in Southern India
-- One-hundred people died and 14 were injured during a stampede near a temple in southern India, the home secretary of Kerala state said. Pilgrims were returning from a ritual at a Hindu temple when a vehicle overturned, prompting the stampede, said Home Secretary Jai Kumar. The incident occurred about 5 miles from the Sabarimala Temple, Kumar said. The vehicle struck many of the people in a narrow stretch through a forest, the news agency Press Trust of India reported. |

Panic, for whatever reason can cause people to do what animals do when they stampede. HOWEVER, animals usually know exactly what the danger is and don't fight each other during these events.
