Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man, is set to meet his untimely demise at the hands of the Green Goblin in the final instalment of the comic book series.

The superhero will be killed while saving his Aunt May from the villain, bringing to an end the Ultimate Spider-Man series.

Although Marvel's Amazing Spider-Man introduced the character of Peter Parker to comic book fans, the Hollywood films are most similar to the Ultimate Spider-Man series.

The story saw him turn into the webbed wonder after being bitten by a radioactive spider and failing to prevent the death of his Uncle Ben.

Brian Bendis, writer of the Ultimate Spider-Man series, said Parker's death will be 'truly heroic and sacrificial', adding there is no chance of him being revived in a later series.

'This is the last hurrah. This is it. There's a real point to this, and the point doesn't work if we don't stick to our guns,' he added.

Andrew Garfield is set to appear as the latest reincarnation of Peter Parker in The Amazing Spider-Man, which hits screens on July 3rd 2012.

Brit actor Garfield admitted he has a tough time on his hands taking on such a well-known character, telling Details: 'I see it as a massive challenge in many ways to make it authentic. To make the character live and breathe in a new way.'

Re: Spider-Man Killed off By Marvel Comics (23 June 2011)

I went in the comic biz the week after Superman was killed off.
The comic went from $2.50 to $30 in 1 week.
About 6 months later they brought him back.
This will happen again.
No way they will keep him dead.
The franchise is waaay too valuable.
I would say watch for the value of Amazing Fantasy 15 and Amazing Spiderman 14 to go up in price except theyre already up there.

They said they wont bring him back in another book.

Dont believe them.
The only character to stay dead in the Marvel Universe was Bucky.

Re: Spider-Man Killed off By Marvel Comics (23 June 2011)

Not long (in the comic book sense) after they "killed off" Superman DC comics considered doing the same thing with Batman.
DC must have learned the error of their ways because they didnt do it.
They just broke his back (Bane, watch for the new Batman movie).

Re: Spider-Man Killed off By Marvel Comics (23 June 2011)

Stopped buying Marvel comics after the Onslaught Saga in which loads of the Marvel Universe were 'killed', but before long they were back again (retained in a pocket universe pfft)

And don't get me started on Superman....grr first Doomsday and then

Ironically the only person in marvel comics who did die was Captain Marvel - died of cancer if I remember.
