Father Charged in Stabbing of 7-Month-Old Son

A father has been arrested in a stabbing that critically injured his 7-month-old son in their Germantown home.

Police tell NBC10 that Samuel Jones, 20, was arrested on Friday. The baby is currently in critical condition.

Police say that Jones was involved in a, “verbal and physical altercation,” with the boy's mother just before 2:30 p.m. Friday inside their home on the 6200 block of Chew Avenue.

A police spokeswoman said the child was stabbed in the head during the altercation. Reverend Chester Williams, who lives across the street from the family, says he heard screams coming from their home.

"The man came out running with the baby in his arms, screaming that the baby fell on a knife," said Williams. "I told him to get in the car."

Williams drove the couple and the baby boy to the Einstein Medical Center. The baby was then taken to St. Christopher's Hospital where he is currently in critical condition.

"God bless that baby to survive, because he's not deserving of this," said Williams.

Sources tell NBC10's, Nefertiti Jaquez, the parents initially gave police conflicting stories about how the baby was injured Friday afternoon at their home.

The mom said her son was holding the knife and fell, according to sources, but Jones claimed the boy fell onto the knife. Investigators say Jones eventually confessed that he was going after the mother when he accidentally stabbed his son.

Jones is charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a child, reckless endangerment and other related offenses. He is currently being held on $500,000 bail.
