Son Surrenders After Mom Found Dead in Freezer Damn! I love this City! ![]() <script type="text/javascript" charset="UTF-8" src="http://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/portableplayer/?cmsID=265606301&videoID=BVQ8nY5on8vy&origin=nbcph iladelphia.com&sec=news&subsec=local&width=600&hei ght=360"></script> Thursday, July 03, 2014 FELTONVILLE, (Philadelphia) (WPVI) -- The son of a woman who was found dead inside a basement freezer in the Feltonville section of Philadelphia has surrendered to police. 58 year old William Carrasquillo surrendered to police early Thursday afternoon, Action News has learned. He had been sought after his 83 year old mother, Andrea Carrasquillo, was found in that freezer back on Tuesday. The entire freezer had to be moved out of the house by police. Investigators on Wednesday removed her from the freezer, but the medical examiner must wait until her corpse thaws before the autopsy can begin. Police were told the woman has been kept frozen since January. Sources say it appears her son had been keeping her in the freezer to collect her social security checks. "That's awful! That's sad! Are you kidding me?" neighbor Rosemary Serrano said earlier this week. East Detectives, CSI and officials with the medical examiner's office were on the scene on the 4500 block of North Lee Street Tuesday afternoon after police got a tip call. "I knew the mom; I didn't know her super well because she had a learning disability. She barely spoke," neighbor Diane Negron said. When officers arrived, police say William Carrasquillo was nowhere to be found. "A real good guy, hardworking. As far as I know, he always took care of his mom. He also takes care of his grandkids," Negron said. There was no immediate word on charges William Carrasquillo may face. |

Re: Son Surrenders After Mom Found Dead in Freezer If he didn't kill her.... I'm not that upset about it. ![]() Dead body is just meat. Don't care much where you put it. He was stealing money, though - which is probably the real crime here. Would have been much weirder if he was keeping it just because. ![]() |

Re: Son Surrenders After Mom Found Dead in Freezer I'm sure if I was really confronted with a human body in a freezer, I'd have a much more emotional reaction. ![]() |

I identified my youngest brother's body so my mother and brother to whom he was closest, would not have to do so. It is not something you want to see! He asphyxiated in a fire. Seeing strangers doesn't have the same effect of me, unless they are babies/children. ![]() |

Re: Son Surrenders After Mom Found Dead in Freezer This news states, as the one I like did, that she died in January. Abuse of a corpse was one of the possible charges. <script type="text/javascript" charset="UTF-8" src="http://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/portableplayer/?cmsID=265606301&videoID=BVQ8nY5on8vy&origin=nbcph iladelphia.com&sec=news&subsec=local&width=600&hei ght=360"></script> By David Chang and Karen Araiza July 3, 2014 NBC10.com - Cydney Long One co-worker is shocked to hear another hid his mother's body in a freezer for months. Find out why from NBC10's Cydney Long who reports from Philadelphia's Feltonville neighborhood. The son of an 83 year old woman whose body was found in a freezer is expected to turn himself in, according to law enforcement sources. Sources tell NBC10 that William Carrasquillo will be charged with abuse of corpse and is expected to surrender to east detectives at some point on Thursday. The body of William's mother, Andrea Carrasquillo, was found in a freezer inside her Philadelphia home on Tuesday after a family member told police she’d been dead – and in the deep freeze -- since January. Neighbors along Lee Street in Hunting Park said they hadn't seen Andrea in a while, but because she didn't venture out much, that didn’t strike them as unusual. Police roped off a good portion of the 4500 block of Lee Street while they went into the home on Tuesday. They found Carrasquillo’s body, just as the tip caller had described -- folded into a freezer about three feet high and 18 or so inches wide. According to one of the lead detectives on the scene, Carrasquillo lived with her son William, who told another family member that his mother died of natural causes in January. William allegedly said he got scared, wasn't sure what to do and tucked her body into the freezer. Carrasquillo's body was intact with no signs of trauma, according to the detective. An autopsy will be performed to determine how she died. According to investigators, William, a pizza delivery man, may have hid the body in the freezer in an attempt to cash in on her social security checks. "He realized she died and there was an opportunity to get away with something and take advantage of it," said Jared Santiago, a friend and co-worker of William. According to Santiago, William struggled financially to care for Andrea, who was disabled, along with her grandson. Santiago told NBC10 William last reported to work on Saturday but replied to a text Sunday night. "He said he loved his mother and thanked me for letting him work here for 20 years," Santiago said. "He said to tell all his friends he was sorry." |

By Frances Burns PHILADELPHIA, July 3 (UPI) --A Philadelphia pizza delivery driver faces charges of abuse of a corpse for allegedly storing his mother's body in a freezer for six months. Police sources told WCAU-TV that William Carrasquillo was expected to surrender Thursday. The body of Andrea Carrasquillo, 83, was found Tuesday in a small freezer in the home she shared with her son in the Feltonville neighborhood. Carrasquillo could face additional charges. A co-worker told WCAU he believed his motive for hiding his mother's body was to cash her Social Security checks. Jared Santiago said Carrasquillo had financial problems because of expenses from caring for his mother. "He realized she died and there was an opportunity to get away with something and take advantage of it," Santiago said. Police went to the home Tuesday after getting a telephone tip that Andrea Carrasquillo had been dead since January and that the body was in the freezer. Investigators said there were no signs of violence on the body, although an autopsy was delayed because the corpse had to be allowed to thaw. The body was naked and doubled over. Santiago said Carrasquillo appears to be remorseful. He said he got a text Sunday, a day after Carrasquillo last worked. "He said he loved his mother and thanked me for letting him work here for 20 years," Santiago said. "He said to tell all his friends he was sorry." ![]() |
