Software Developer ‘outsources His Job to China So He Can Play on the Internet’

A worker at a US infrastructure company has been exposed after he reportedly outsourced his job to China so he could do nothing at work.

The software developer paid a firm in Asia one fifth of his six-digit salary to complete his daily tasks so he could surf the internet, according to the Register who cited a security audit by Verizon investigators.

The worker, only referred to as ‘Bob’, would reportedly visit social network sites Facebook, Reddit and LinkedIn during the time he was meant to be working.

The arrangement was discovered when investigators set up a VPN system that established Bob’s account had been accessed from a server in Shenyang, China.

Verizon reported: ‘The company’s IT personnel were sure that the issue had to do with some kind of zero day malware that was able to initiate VPN connections from Bob’s desktop workstation via external proxy and then route that VPN traffic to China, only to be routed back to their concentrator.

‘Yes, it is a bit of a convoluted theory, and like most convoluted theories, an incorrect one.’

The programmer, who had become the best at the company, was found to have posted authentication details to a Chinese software firm.

And yes, as you can guess, the resourceful employee no longer works at the company.

A study of Bob’s web history showed his normal day consisted of the following:

9am – Arrive and surf Reddit for a couple of hours. Watch cat videos.

11.30am – Take lunch.

1pm – Ebay time.

2pm – Facebook updates – LinkedIn.

4.30pm – End of day update e-mail to management.

5pm – Go home.

Hahaha. As someone who is getting ready to wrap up their Bachelor's Degree in IT I hope to god I can find someone doing this sometime in my career. It's pretty smart.

? What an arsehole, he has just demonstated to the big bosses that his job can be performed at a much better standard, and at a lower cost, when it is outsourced to china (mind you a big company probably already knows this, but its still a big FU to trying to keep jobs locally). I wonder how long until his prior workmates are made redundant.
