The excitement and enthusiasm has been building up, but perhaps in some places more than others. Some clothing brands have released collections dedicated specially to SG51, and taxi drivers have shown their love for the country by embellishing their vehicles with just a tad too many Singapore flags.

National Day - Parade 2016 Logo

"I thought of a heart with four shades of red to represent our diversity, the different races and religions in Singapore, living together in harmony."

When the chance to design this year’s logo came up, Miss Lim Xin Chelsea, 19, grabbed it because she always wanted to be involved in the NDP. Her efforts paid off when her design a geometric heart with the number 51 written in bold brushstrokes beat some 250 entries.

Miss Lim, who took 10 days to come up with the design, said: I thought of a heart with four shades of red to represent our diversity, the different races and religions in Singapore, living together in harmony. The Visual Communications and Media Design student at Singapore Polytechnic won two pairs of tickets to the actual show.

She intends to take her three grandparents, who have never watched the NDP live before, to show her appreciation for them. They were part of the pioneer generation who helped build our nation, said Miss Lim.
