Yeah, this actually happened. 364 days out of the year would make for an OK day to shoplift…and that is the point in the conversation where David Sherman tuned out. The other day? That would be when the store is hosting “Shop With a Cop” night. You know, those guys who sit around and eat donuts, but also on the rare occasion tend to arrest people for committing crimes– almost like it’s their job or something? On Wednesday night last week, 49-year-old David Sherman attempted to rob a Nebraska Wal-Mart and make off with a $79 DVD player, which for Wal-Mart, is on the pricey side. In his planning and execution, Sherman failed to realize that there were over 24 Sarpy County Sheriff’s Department deputies inside the store. The officers were there with 75 underprivileged children they were taking shopping and to meet Santa when stealth master Sherman went flying out of the store, DVD player in tow. Needless to say, he was noticed. Several of the officers immediately took off after Sherman and found him in the parking lot hiding in a car. Sherman expressed his regret the following day in an interview with NBC. “I just feel real bad. I feel like I really let myself down, let people down. I just feel real stupid. When you are on that stuff, your mind, you’re not thinking about no police or nothing,” he said. “Your mind is just thinking about getting some more drugs.”

Aside from Sherman facing punishment for felony shoplifting charges, he’s also currently experiencing extreme pain from detoxing. According to NBC, this will be Sherman’s 6th time in jail for shoplifting, and he’ll be looking at anywhere between 10-60 years in prison. What’s the best part about all of this? Two weeks ago, some idiot did the exact same thing. At the Maryland Wal-Mart’s Shop With a Cop night, 22 year old Timothy Randall Clark was spotted by the officers ripping open boxes and shoving video games into his clothing. Lucky for Wal-Mart, when Clark tried to walk out with over $600 worth of video games, there were close to 50 cops in attendance to catch him. Shoplifters: maybe it’s time to stop stealing things right in front of 20+ cops. But if you’re in this for my entertainment, I hear casing the Police Station is a piece of cake.

I think shoplifters are in those places 24/7 and the idiots who do it when cops are present just have bad luck.
