Michael Jace has been charged in the shooting death of his wife, April.

CNN reports that the actor, 48, who starred in FX series The Shield, and who had roles in Southland and NYPD Blue, was charged Tuesday. He was booked on a homicide charge.

April Jace, 40, was found shot to death in her south Los Angeles home by police called there to investigate a shooting, Los Angeles Police Detective Lyman Doster told CNN.

The Los Angeles Times reports that police arrived at the couple's home in the Hyde Park neighborhood around 8:30 p.m. Monday.

TMZ says Jace was at home alone when his wife arrived with their two sons. He called 911 to report the death.

Detective Sal LaBarbera told KNBC-TV that Michael Jace is a suspect and that police are not looking for other suspects.

The two young children of actor Michael Jace were home when their mother was shot and killed and “The Shield” star was arrested in the case, Los Angeles police said Tuesday.

“They were not physically hurt, but obviously their emotions are running high,” homicide Det. Sal LaBarbera told KTLA. “Two young children that lost their mom and their dad is in jail, most likely will be in prison for this.”

Jace, who played an LAPD officer on the FX drama, was arrested on suspicion of homicide outside the home he and his wife shared in the 5400 block of Brynhurst Avenue in Hyde Park. He was listed as being 51 years old, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department inmate booking records.

April Jace, 40, was found shot to death around 8:30 p.m. Monday, police said. She and the couple’s two sons -- both under 10 years old -- had arrived home shortly before the shooting, LaBarbera said.

There was no history of police calls to the home and neighbors said they weren’t aware of any domestic issues, LaBarbera said. The children are staying with other family members, he said.

From 2002 to 2008, Michael Jace played Los Angeles Police Officer Julien Lowe, who rose in the ranks to become a detective on the crime drama "The Shield." He has also had roles in "Planet of the Apes," "Forrest Gump" and "Boogie Nights," according to the website IMDb.

He had no money and was losing his house. He didn't have it all, he was losing it all.

Lots of people go insane when they lose the security of a home and/or money. It's a common cause of mental unhinging.

I don't know about you, but I can't imagine "having it all" and living so much beyond one's means they lose it all. I mean, I know what I can and can't afford and for that reason I have no credit cards and do not tempt fate in any way. It's crazy to think of all the people that let things get to out of control.

Michael Jace and his wife were locked in an angry argument over money before he allegedly murdered her ... law enforcement sources tell TMZ.

We're told "The Shield" star was facing serious money problems and it became a source of family conflict.

There's certainly evidence showing there was great financial stress. TMZ has learned Jace filed for bankruptcy in March 2011. He filed for Chapter 13, allowing him to restructure and reduce his mortgage payments.

Jace owed $411K on his South L.A. home where he shot his wife. Jace stopped paying his mortgage and was on the brink of a foreclosure sale ... according to documents obtained by TMZ.

Jace's bankruptcy settlement allowed him to drastically lower his monthly payments, but he went delinquent again late last year.

As TMZ first reported Jace called 911 last night and said he shot his wife in the face, allegedly while his 2 children watched.
