Over the years and few war times ive watched unfold in my cozy american home seem 'unfinished'. Even the vet as a vet felt any war we commit to might as well end in American total takeover.....just add a few more States. Lol much like Russia i suppose. Anything else just seems useless loss of life. Your all in or all out was his motto.

America lost something in it's character right after WWII.

Starting with the Korean War which was nothing more than Stalin and Mao testing US (and to some extent the rest of the world) resolve.

It's been a downhill slide ever since.

Well, with WW2 came nuclear armaments and mass destruction.

Post-WW2 saw us engage is wars more out of opposing ideologies rather than legitimate threats.
It wasn't a new thing, as we had conducted expeditions around the world for less than that before WW2. The difference is that with the advent of mass media the people we able to both witness the destruction and spread their voices in a more immediate manner. Some get angry at the violence, others get angry at people getting angry.

Add to that the issues of desegregation and the impending Civil Rights movements. A perfect storm, you might say.

Wars between political ideas, both by proxy and direct intervention, became the norm. The fact that we haven't committed 100% of our resources may be a reflection on how uncommitted we are/were to the wars in general, perhaps a subconscious acknowledgement that we aren't as justified in our actions as we claim to be. Our reluctance to commit could very well be the one thing that has saved us from utter collapse.

Emiratis aren't nearly as bad as the Saudia, save for being incredibly arrogant and racist towards anyone who isn't from an Emirati bloodline (unless you're American or European... they love our $$$). Dubai makes Vegas look like Mayberry.
Still, the thought of them allying with the Saudis makes me hesitant to accept it at face value.

I do hope they killed the right people, and it would be nice to see them focus more on defeating ISIS instead of fighting for/defending against regime change.

A hastily, poorly constructed Vegas at that. The Saudis will never focus their energy fighting ISIS/ISIL, in my (admittedly uninformed) opinion.

Maybe, but it's visually impressive.
I've been to Dubai 4 times now and it's absolutely absurd how much money and "stuff" they have there.
One of their shopping malls has indoor snow skiing.
Terminal 3 of the airport, when it was built, was THE largest building in the world at nearly 18.5 Million square ft. It's still the largest terminal in the world.
They already have the tallest building in the world (which it already was able to claim before it was completed), and are already planning for an even taller one.
Ferraris, Lamborghinis, and Maseratis are commonplace. You will see multiple Bugattis, Rolls-Royces, and Bentleys in the same parking lot. Even the police have a McLaren.
People say buy land because they don't build it anymore... well in Dubai they do.

It is a kingdom of excess in every way imagineable.

You know what's even worse? Emiratis really don't "do" anything. They may sweat gold by the kilo, but they don't build their greatness. Modern version of the Pyramids and slave labor.
