SAS sniper Danny Nightingale to face retrial
An SAS sniper who was charged with illegally possessing a pistol and ammunition is to face a retrial.

Sgt Danny Nightingale, from Crewe, had denied illegally possessing a 9mm Glock pistol and ammunition at his court martial in November.

His military detention sentence was overturned at the Court of Appeal in March.

A judge ordered the retrial at a hearing at the Military Court Centre in Bulford, Wiltshire.

At a preparatory hearing to discuss the future of the case, Judge Advocate Jeff Blackett said there was no abuse of process relating to the content of emails apparently leaked by a Ministry of Defence source, which were referred to for the first time at the hearing at Bulford Military Court Centre in Wiltshire.

Counsel for Sgt Nightingale, Simon McKay, said the emails appeared to show the Director of Service Prosecutions consulting the military "chain of command" - the Adjutant General's office - on whether or not to pursue the case against the soldier.

Judge Blackett said he was satisfied a retrial was in the public interest.

The pistol and more than 300 rounds of ammunition were found by West Mercia Police at Sgt Nightingale's Hereford accommodation.

Why? He admitted the firearms offence and offered a plea of mitigation.

By his own confession, either he should either face appropriate punishment or his service in the SAS grants him a free pass. The latter just doesn't make sense to me.

He joined the army so supports the state to the extent of being willing to kill at its behest. He admited the offence and as such should face the full weight of the law that he supports. Having a illegal gun is supposed to be a mandatory 5 years sentence now. I agree 100% Impotent rage the army and police should not get a free pass in fact their punishment should be far more severe. The rights and wrongs of a/the law are irrelevant in this case IMO

thats not really the issue though and TBH not true. Love them or hate them the SAS are the best of the best, they are the elite in both skill and intelligence, that is why the are chosen. You can not really believe a member of the SAS 'forgot' to disclose a 'gift' that just happened to be a illegal firearm can you? really?

Now Im not suggesting that this guy was going to sell the gun. In fact I do honestly believe he would have just kept as a souvenir in a box his whole life. Maybe he would have even kept in a safe. Thats not the issue here.

As for 'chavvy cunts' I agree I would feel safer knowing they were not walking around with a illegal gun and 300 rounds however if they were there is a chance they would have bought it from someone like the above (again I do not think thats what he was doing)

WTF! I was reading the news about it, someone should stop that sheriff before he causes further damage: according to him, i should be charged with possession of semi-automatic firearm, if i get caught with my beloved Hello Kitty AR 15

He had all the time to verify that it was NOT a real gun, and it's even crazier that he claimed that criminals "get a real gun then spray it bright orange so that people think it’s a toy": WHY? So in case of robbery the people will LOL at you instead of giving you the money? That sheriff is definitely way more dangerous for the society than that poor homeless.
