Re: Russian Passenger Aircraft Crash in Egypt
I don;t think it's been posted yet but it appears to have broken up mid-air - explosion of some type. http://apnews.myway.com/article/2015...e881b78c3.html |

Re: Russian Passenger Aircraft Crash in Egypt
However it happened, whatever the causation, it was a violent mid-air breakup. Of course, many different things could have happened in flight to cause this, including, but not limited to, all kinds of mechanical failure. Which in turn causes catastrophic structural failure, and rapid decompression. I don't personally think this is your typical engine or hydraulic failure though. There are reports of a body, maybe multiples, being found over 8km away from the main wreckage site. Also wreckage being strewn over a very wide area. |

Re: Russian Passenger Aircraft Crash in Egypt
There are reports (unsatisfactorily documented so far IMO) that this plane had an incident that involved tail damage in 2001. It has been speculated that repairs may not have been done properly which resulted in eventual structural failure. http://www.thedailybeast.com/article...ver-egypt.html However, Russian 'standards' of air frame inspection and 'maintenance' are world renowned for being low and/or non-existent. This could easily have been caused by metal fatigue which could have been spotted and dealt with if proper air frame inspections had been conducted. Situations like this are precisely why air frame inspections are conducted in the first place, though there are plenty of companies that try to shortcut the expense of such safety practices by skipping inspections and/or falsifying records of inspections. Despite it's potential military prowess, Russia is still one large Third World country in terms of mindset. |
