Re: Russian Passenger Aircraft Crash in Egypt
A great site (populated by aviation industry professionals - pilots, crew, engineers, etc.) is airliners.net. They follow stuff like this live in threads. It isn't a site for trolling anyone - pretty strict posting rules. No registration required to read, though. Better and more detailed than what you get in the news. No gore, though. They're pretty actively against it. But interesting if you like aviation.

Re: Russian Passenger Aircraft Crash in Egypt
I'm not sure to what to make of the video that's circulating as it doesn't show anything decisively that it was the airliner However, the media seems fixated that it couldn't have been shot down with a handheld device and keep repeating the height of altitude as beyond the capabilities of one. Did someone seem to forget that a whole bunch of SAM's disappeared during Gaddafi's fall in Libya and rockets? The Egyptian's found a bunch in Aswan with 20-25 on launchers capable of reaching the altitude of that plane. http://news.egypt.com/english/permalink/197587.html Also notice the abscence of speculation if an explosive device may have been onboard. Yet air routes are suddenly being diverted from the area. Sounds like a for certain non-terrorist event and assurances that SAAMs can't reach that high, carriers in the area aren't taking chances. There's a lot of reasons on both sides of the pond for nobody to be bringing this up for diplomatic reasons and minimizing it. If Putin suddenly gets agressive and goes Chechyn against ISIS after pretty much ignoring them up to now, I think we'll have a first clue. |

If it turns out IS did manage to shoot this plane down, I hope like hell Putin goes full-retard and nukes the hell out of the place. I really do.

Re: Russian Passenger Aircraft Crash in Egypt
I saw a photo of the tail which had "...OJET" on it. Metrojet maybe? The bodies are found in a perimeter of 8000 m, with a last known alt. of 9000 m. Many victims appear to be suffocated. My guess: bomb. |

Re: Russian Passenger Aircraft Crash in Egypt
Terrorists would love to shoot down a Russian jetliner, but I would think that it's more likely a matter of Third World pilots and Third World level of poor maintenance including simple things like contaminated fuel. I guess we'll should find out soon enough. |
