You didn't QUOTE, so I don't know who you're referring too. But since you posted directly below me
Putin called Crimea a Russian Holy Land as recently as last December.
And arrest warrant from Russia for Soros was issued almost 3 years ago to the day.
So you can see the confusion..

Putin sees the west has no stomach for war. Just as Hitler did. After WW1, the west did all it could to avoid war. Besides stepping in early to ensure it wouldn't get started again.

Now after two wars, America and Europe are trying to avoid war at all costs. Which sounds nice.

Except Putin knows he can take advantage of this, just as Hitler did. The only question now is, how far will Putin go? And after that, how far will the west allow Putin to go?

It's already being reported that Putin has done a documentary claiming America was behind the coup in Ukraine. So he's building the foundation within his country for war. While America is banning the American flag, and calling patriotic citizens extremist. Russia is in a nationalistic frenzy. Putin has a huge neo nazi biker gang roaming the country snuffing out all opposition.. Even making any perceived anti government speech an act of treason.

Russian news pounds the propaganda into its people around the clock. To where support for the Putin regime is at unheard-of levels in any country. And the anti American rhetoric is back to cold war levels.

There is no question, Russia wants to bring the West down. While a large group within our own country complains about US military spending.

It's either they are gullible, and believe everything will just be ok. Or they don't care that America and the west could face a threat that could mean our way of life is drastically diminished at the very least.
