Roadkill Pu Pu Platter?

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. (WATE) - A Chinese restaurant is in trouble after the owner admitted to bringing road kill into the kitchen.

Williamsburg residents say Red Flower Chinese Restaurant is popular. It's located in a busy shopping mall, so the business sees a lot of traffic from people shopping and working nearby.

"Disgusted, very disgusted," Beth Adkins said about the restaurant. She says she has eaten there.

"I could not believe it. I could not," said Jack Hardigree, another customer.

The Whitley County Health Department shut the place down after the owner admitted to bring in a deer found dead on the highway.

"Apparently they were going to feed it to customers, they had it all cut up and they were dissecting it," said Whitley County Sheriff Colan Harrell.

Customer Katie Hopkins says she was the one who called authorities after watching the animal being wheeled in during lunch.

"There was this tail, a big, white, fuzzy, tail. A leg was sticking out. They had a box on top of it. They were wheeling it, trying to hurry up. One of the other employees was mopping up blood that was dripping out of the garbage and on to the floor," Hopkins described.

Red Flower was closed Monday, but some people were seen inside behind the restaurant's locked doors. They chose not to respond to knocks at the door.

Customers say they don't know if they will eat at the restaurant again.

"For them to have picked something off the road! Who knows how long it had been dead?! No!" Adkins said.

"I would check my food before I ate it, if I did," said Hardigree, about dining at the restaurant again.

The health department officials say the restaurant owners will have to clean the place thoroughly before the officials even think of letting the restaurant reopen.

There is one other Chinese restaurant in Williamsburg, under different ownership.

These stories used to circulate here every now and then. As long as I know after I ate whatever I ate, I might not get deathly nauseous.

Usually shrimp are easy. Hard to disguise one as long as they are whole.

I've only seen what I believe are ducks in China Town here. I've only seen dogs and cats on, "Faces of Death".

A deer that still bleeds is fresh, I would eat the whole thing if they served it openly without the sneekyness. At least it was a deer and not a bag full of discarded fetuses right?

Re: Roadkill Pu Pu Platter?

That doesn't shock me at all. There was a Chinese restaurant that was shut down where I live. The inspectors found cats in the kitchen that they were butchering to serve to customers.

Re: Roadkill Pu Pu Platter?

I watched a doc about a guy surviving on fresh roadkill and he came to no harm. As long as it was under a certain timescale dead, the meat was as good as what you'd buy. Though not as filling!

But yes, you don't serve it up in restaurants

In China, fetus soup is very expensive to buy. I could never eat a little face, or big face, looking back at me!

Only if you disclose what you are serving.
