Rio 2016 Olympic's - the Other Side of Brazil ('Crackland')

I've just been reading up about 'Cracolandia' (Crackland) in San Paolo, in Brazil. To the best of my knowledge I haven't not seen anything here about it, so I thought I'd share. Translated by trusty old googletranslate from Portuguese, so apologies for any linguistic or punctuation anomolies.

Cracolândia

Cracolândia (for derivation crack) is a popular name for a region in the center of Sao Paulo, near avenues Duque de Caxias, Ipirang , White River , Casper Libero and the Maua Street and Júlio Prestes Station , where historically developed intense drug trafficking and prostitution .

During the late 1960s , with the emergence of so-called marginal film , there was a growing development of cinematographic activity in this city region. Several producers and some cinemas there arose at this time.

The Trash Mouth can be considered the cradle of marginal cinema directors such as Roger Sganzerla , Ozualdo Candeias and Julio Bressane , among others. Marginal films, linked to mouth, were always permeated much sexuality , escrache and binge. During the 1980s , this production intensified sexual content and entered the period that became known as the phase of pornochanchada . Mouth was responsible for more than 700 titles at this time.

Since 2005 , the city closed bars and hotels connected to drug trafficking and prostitution, withdrew homeless and increased policing to inhibit drug use on site. Hundreds of buildings were declared of public utility , in an area of 105 thousand square meters, and are being expropriated . The program's goal is to make the area attractive to private investment, opening spaces for companies in the real estate sector .

In 2007, the Municipality of São Paulo launched a program called New Light to promote the reconfiguration and redevelopment of the area. Among the proposed measures, there is the tax relief relating to property taxes , to stimulate the reforms of facades of real estate market value lower than R $ 300,000. [4]

Program's critics, however, point out your character hygienist , noting that the recovery of buildings, squares, parks and boulevards is not accompanied by actions aimed at the most vulnerable groups who live or work in the area - being summarily expelled. The homeless are taken, the work of collectors of recyclable material is difficult and users and dependent crack (many of them children and adolescents), unable to meet on site, are obliged to roam the neighborhoods, in flocks, aimlessly. [5]

Operation Cracolândia
In 3 of January of 2012 began a combat operation against trafficking in the region and help to crack users, called Operation Legal Center. Later in the month, according to the PM, the Cracolândia had spread to 27 districts, as Barra Funda , in the tracks of Paulista Metropolitan Railroad Company , Higienopolis , Light , Elysian Fields , Santa Cecilia and nearby High Costa e Silva , these regions were called by the media "minicracolândias." [6] According to a report released on 27 January by the government of São Paulo since the beginning of operation 155 users were directed to the recovery of institutions (hospital), 191 people were arrested in the act , and seized approximately 63 tons of drugs , including 3 of crack.

Judicious applications of napalm would cure that quickly.

Just like for the World Cup they will do what they did for the summit in 92. You will have militias go in first, followed by the police, many innocents will die while they clear everything for the visit and many more will go 'missing'

However Brazil and the favelas are a strange kettle of parahna. Total poverty the likes of wich none of us could imagine yet the gangs have guns that only appear in a right wing Americans wet dream.

There is was a great doc with the city of God release not sure of the name but it showed these gangs with rocket launchers and using traiser Fire against the police!! It's a country of unimaginable wealth and obscene poverty but one that has very much been effected by the arms trade.

They will round up all of the hobos and undesirables and kick them out so the world won't see the true extent of the poverty in parts of the country. And then they will just come back and life will go on as usual, pretty disgusting really. It isn't just Brazil that's guilty of this.

Vancouver did the same thing with the homeless prior to the 2010 games.

The International Olympic Committee is just as bad if not worse; those corrupt fucks swoop into town and economically threaten every business they hate or doesn't abide by their rules. (Case in point, they threatened to sue a small diner for $1 or $2 million because it was called The Olympic Cafe. The IOC tried to claim the word "olympic" was a trademark.)

It's a sorry state of affairs and there will be some very cunning filming and journalism during the Olympics. Make it look a wonderful place.

It will be though. Rio during the olimpics will be a wonderful place to be by any camera angle. They won't change camera angles to avoid showing that favela. They will demolish that favela completely
