If she admitted early on that she was thinking of harming her son, like the article said, and had a previous medical history of instability then she did try and get help. The ball is in the court of the professionals who knew this, yet did nothing. This is just another example of this country's absolutely abysmal mental health care practices.

What is with all this rage towards the mentally ill? This woman has very serious, legitimate conditions and people are acting like she's Hitler. This case is a tragedy, and she needs to be held accountable for her actions but all this anger is misdirected. You can't expect mentally ill people to think logically, otherwise they wouldn't be mentally ILL. She didn't get to choose her body chemistry. Someone should have intervened long before now.

Munchausen by proxy is a terrible mental disease. My heart goes out to the children and other vulnerable people abused and killed by those with the condition. |
