Relative Held in Slaying of Vernon Hills Woman
A close male relative has been charged with killing a Vernon Hills woman who was found dead in her home Wednesday night, authorities said. Rachel Stolberg, 54, of the 300 block of Farmington Lane, was pronounced dead shortly after she was discovered at about 5:20 p.m., Lake County Coroner Artis Yancey said. Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Steve Scheller confirmed that the relative has been charged with killing Stolberg, but the prosecutor was not immediately able to name the man. He is expected to appear in court Friday morning on a first-degree murder charge. An autopsy Thursday afternoon revealed that Stolberg died from asphyxiation, Scheller said.
