Bold, colourful posters are blanketing the streets of Halifax in support of the boys accused of hounding Rehtaeh Parsons to death.

And now, these posters and their message are hounding the family of the girl, who was taken off life support on April 7, just days after she tried to take her own life.

The posters, according to CBC, urge the community to "Stay strong, support the boys."

“It just felt like someone kicked me in the stomach. How dare they do that?” Leah Parsons told Global News.

After Parson's death, her mother Leah wrote on a Facebook memorial page that the 15-year-old student at Cole Harbour District High School, near Halifax, had been the victim of a brutal assault.

The teen claimed she had been raped by four boys who then distributed photos of the incident -- a claim that had reportedly fallen on deaf ears among local authorities.

In a blog on The Huffington Post Canada, her father, Glen Canning added, "My daughter wasn't bullied to death, she was disappointed to death. Disappointed in people she thought she could trust, her school, and the police."

Amid mounting public pressure, and a threat from hacker group Anonymous, the RCMP reopened the Parsons case late last week.

Parson's family couldn't help but encounter the posters. Her stepfather, Jason Barnes told CBC News he spotted them on Wednesday morning, draping telephone poles on his street.

Some of those posters, CTV News reports, were tacked right outside of the family's home in Cole Harbour.

Now, Leah Parsons is using the same memorial page she set up for her daughter to condemn the authors of the posters.

When the bus passengers got out at their stop in Eastern Passage, those in the car attacked them in a laneway, RCMP reported. All three teenage victims were sprayed with an irritant and one was stabbed but not seriously injured.

The group of boys in the car included some whom Rehtaeh had accused of sexually assaulting her, according to people with direct knowledge of the incident.

Those on the bus included the girl’s friends. Rehtaeh went to the hospital later to see one of them.

“She was very upset by it,” said Jason Barnes, Rehtaeh’s mother’s partner.

“She didn’t say specifically what took place or how it came to be. There was a disagreement between them.

“The individual that was stabbed was one of her best friends and stood by her through this whole thing. She was very upset by what transpired that night.”

There will always be despicable people looking to exploit someone when they are weak, hopefully young women out there will read this story and start making better decisions. Not saying that she is to blame for being raped, but it's hard to get gang-raped while you're passed out if you don't get drunk illegally at someone's house without any supervision or at least a friend or two to watch out for each other.
Maybe this story coming to light will cause hundreds - or even thousands - of girls to be a little more cautious when it comes to how they 'party' and who they party with... maybe her death was not in vain.

I love how people always blame the victim. Yeah she made a bad decision to go to an underage party and get drunk, this doesn't mean she deserved what she got, a girl shouldn't have to fear getting gang raped in the first place, guys shouldn't rape anyone. A girl passing out drunk doesn't mean consent to have sex.


I hate rape culture so much. What pisses me off more is when the news and the press sympathize with the rapists because they were young boys who made a mistake or whatever. what the fuck

women supporting rape culture is a defense mechanism. placing the blame for rape on women, and conjuring up a bunch of ways to "prevent" and "provoke" rape allows them to delude themselves into a false sense of security. when only "sluts" get raped, they can pretend that they are not at risk of being raped. because if they're "good", the boys won't turn on them.

they are the ones who are asking for it, because they are the ones putting themselves at risk.
