Raoul Moat: Pictures of His Last Stand
One photograph shows him on his knees, holding a sawn-off shotgun to his temple. After intense negotiations lasting six hours, Moat shot himself — bringing to an end the biggest manhunt in recent memory. Moat, 37, pulled the trigger just yards from a storm drain where it is thought he may have been hiding while the police searched for him. Despite a hunt involving at least 500 officers from 15 forces — 160 of them armed — 20 armoured cars, a police helicopter and an RAF Tornado jet, Moat had evaded capture for seven days. Details of the final moments of the stand-off have emerged. Two police “snatch squads”, unseen by Moat, had crept towards him as negotiators talked to him and were just two feet from the gunman when he shot himself. Police have confirmed that two Taser guns were fired seconds before Moat killed himself. At least one of them hit him but failed to incapacitate him, possibly because it did not penetrate his clothing properly. He actually lived for 30 min. after he shot himself. |
