Quality Of Meth Coming Out Of North Korea Would Make Walter White's Eyes Pop
GEOFFREY INGERSOLL businessinsider.com November 22, 2013 Various news agencies have reported that five men were recently extradited to the U.S. from Thailand for their alleged involvement in a North Korean meth drug ring. But that's not the real kicker. Everyone knows that North Korea, (allegedly), loves to push meth around the globe, but up till this point, no one was clear on just how epic North Korea's product actually was. From Al Jazeera: That crystal meth was later seized by law enforcement and tested to be more than 99 percent pure, even purer than the meth cooked by Walter White, the fictional teacher turned drug lord in the popular TV series, "Breaking Bad." North Korea's not so well known for its cutting edge technology, so it's pretty crazy they've reached that level of purity, considering the chemical precision that goes into drug production, (not just the case for methamphetamine). One reason North Korea may be so good at producing it is physical necessity. The Hermit Kingdom is notoriously isolated from any kind of official trade and is rife with starvation and disease. “It does seem like, [meth use], very widespread in North Korea. It wasn’t viewed as an illicit drug, but more as just a kind of medicine,” Isaac Stone Fish, an associate editor at the Foreign Policy, told Al Jazeera. “It’s also an appetite suppressant in a country where malnutrition is very common.” China has for a long time sought to stanch the flow of the illicit drug across its borders. Meanwhile, Mexican cartels dominate the American market for meth. |

They are so far behind the times it's ridiculous. Meth was thought to be a medicine by many countries a century ago until they figured out it's poison.

I knew a guy who used to make it. I thought it was for medicinal purposes then, too. I wanted those skeleton-looking cheekbones, but, finally realized, I have a big head and would only lose my teeth and nose. We thought we were counteracting it with vitamins. I was still vain. In the US, who knows what it's cut with anymore? |

Meth still is a medicine in many countries, USA included. Despite the horror stories associated with smoking the freebase form (ice), it still has legitimate and beneficial uses in medicine. The only development in the past 30 years is that it is slightly more controlled in a medical environment, certainly in the UK anyway. Most "street drugs" are still used in hospitals today. Heroin for extreme pain. Cocaine for anaesthesia. THC to prevent brain injury complications. Ketamine to provide analgesia when immediate surgery is necessary. Methamphetamine for narcolepsy and morbid obesity.
