A teacher has been jailed for 22 years for sexually abusing three of her male students.

Former English teacher Jennifer Fichter, 30, was convicted in Polk County Court in Florida of 37 counts of unlawful sexual contact with minors.

Fichter had a sexual relationship with three 17-year-old male students, the Independent said. She reportedly became pregnant and had an abortion.

She was arrested in April 2014 after the mother of one of the victims found sexually inappropriate texts on her son's phone and contacted police.

Fichter used two different aliases when texting the boy and the pair would meet "in the early morning hours" for sex, police said. The pair met several times in a parking lot, where Fichter's car was waiting. They also met off a highway and outside city limits numerous times.

"The victim's mother discovered this relationship after reviewing text messages from her son and she asked that Fichter respond to her residence to talk," police said. "According to the victim's mother, Fichter admitted to the sexual encounters and professed her love for him."

Following news of the investigation, two other boys came forward and told police about their own experiences.

The teacher was then charged with a total of 37 offences against the three students.

All of the boys attended Central Florida Aerospace Academy, where Fichter was a teacher.

"I wish I could go back and remove what I have done," she said in footage from Fox News.

The judge called her a "predator" and said: "You're going to have a long time to think about what you did."

Before her job in Polk County, she had resigned from a position in Orange County under similar suspicions, Fox said.

One of the teenagers revealed that he had sex with Fichter about 20 times over the course of seven months.

Their activities were discovered when the mother of one of the teens found “intimate” text messages from Fichter on her son’s phone.

After Fichter was arrested, more teens came forward and her abuse was discovered to have spanned for three years.

One victim said he had sex with Fichter on the school roof.

The former teacher was charged with 37 counts of sexual activity with boys under 18 and she has now been found guilty on all counts.

She told a court in Lakeland, Florida: ”All I can say is I’m so sorry.

“I wish I could take it back, and my words are not going to suffice I know that.”

One of the boy’s mothers said: "I saw myself losing my son before my very eyes and there was nothing I could do to reach him.
"It hurts.”

Sentencing her to 22 years behind bars, the judge described Fichter as a “predator”.
