Any place with that many ethnic and religious groups is going to be a firework factory on fire when shit hits the fan. Even after the wars were over, you still have tensions, kidnappings, and violence. History going back centuries and millennia boiling over and strong personal identifications of the civilian populous. History never has, and never will repeat itself, it manifests, and it did a hell of a job manifesting itself within all the separate ethnic groups when Yugoslavia splintered.

Don't forget that Bosnia is where WWI started, so in many respects, what happened in the 90s was far less traumatic than what had already occurred. Well, less traumatic for those not involved in the Balkans.

I was involved, both in and around Mostar as well as other places as far North as Banja Luka (well further but its an easy place for people to locate).
