Political Correctness Going Too Far....
Vic police busted for racist drink holders Police at a station in Melbourne's west have been drinking from stubby holders with racist messages mocking the African and other migrant communities in the area. The Herald Sun says Chief Commissioner Ken Lay has vowed to come down hard on those responsible while senior officers have slammed the stubbies as offensive. The newspaper reports around 50 of the drink coolers are believed to have been distributed amongst officers at Sunshine Police Station. On one side is a cartoon image of a mudfish and the words: "Sunshine police. Whoever says Sunshine brings happiness has never worked here." The paper said "mudfish" or "muddie" is a derogatory term for Africans. On the other side of the stubby holder is the message: "My date of birth is 01/01/?" This apparently is having a go at the many refugees from Sudan and other war-torn nations who do not know their date of birth. Northwest metro police commander, Assistant Commissioner Andrew Crisp, told the newspaper he was extremely disappointed and described the stubby holders as offensive. |

Re: Political Correctness Going Too Far....
This is Australia, not America. We used to laugh at stupid crap like this and move past it instead of making a huge fuss. Is it poor taste? Of course it is but that is part of what makes it funny. Our ability to laugh at ourselves was what seperated us from the rest of the world and made us unique. Political correctness is killing our way of life.

Re: Political Correctness Going Too Far....
I agree Blewvane. I was going to a viewing for my friends 25 year old daughter and a mess. Thank God for Blazing Saddles as that made me laugh for the first time since her death. That movie could never be made today because it would offend everyone. |
