Polish police say they have smashed a ring that conned companies by using “verdicts” from fictitious arbitration courts.

Agnieszka Hamelusz, a spokeswoman for the Police Central Bureau of Investigation (CBŚP), said the fraudsters invented international arbitration courts - one in Latvia’s capital, Riga, and one in Warsaw.
Hamelusz added: “These issued fictitious verdicts, which were then sent to bailiffs’ offices.
“Bailiffs seized property from entrepreneurs. In Poland several dozen companies - primarily engaged in trade in fuel and electronics - fell victim to the group.”
Investigators suspect the fraudsters conned Polish companies out of more than PLN 23 million (EUR 5.3m, USD 6m) and that they were trying to defraud firms out of a further EUR 23 million. Police detained four people in Warsaw.

So bailiffs just turned up and started taking their property and nobody thought to query it? They must have known they didn't owe money.

Or maybe they did so much thieving (the oil and electronics companies) that they didn't know if they were or weren't owing money :-)
