Police Probe Decapitation of Arizona Woman and Her Dogs

Reuters) - Police in Arizona on Sunday were probing what prompted a bloody domestic assault that left a woman and her two dogs decapitated and the man she lived with hospitalized with serious injuries, including a partly severed arm.

The grisly scene was discovered Saturday morning after a neighbor decided to check on the welfare of a married couple he knew had mental health issues.

When the husband opened the door to the couple's home he was naked, a portion of his left forearm was cut off, his right eye was missing, and large amounts of blood were seen throughout the home, according to Phoenix police.

The neighbor called police who entered the home and found the headless body of Trina Heisch, 49, in a bedroom closet along with two dogs. The animals had also been decapitated. Large amounts of blood was spread across floors, cabinets and walls of the apartment, police said.

The suspect, who police have not named, but said was believed to be Heisch's husband, was taken to an area hospital where he underwent surgery. Police said he admitted to killing "three of his family members" and will be charged in Heisch's murder when released from the hospital.

Investigators said both the suspect and victim have a history of mental illness, domestic violence and drug abuse. The suspect was arrested in 2003 for attempting to kill a family member, and Heisch was arrested in March for domestic violence assault, when it was alleged she tried to stab the suspect, police said.

Police said family members reported that the two met and married after meeting in a mental health facility.

Re: Police Probe Decapitation of Arizona Woman and Her Dogs

He shouldnt have been out to begin with.

Wakefield was found guilty except insane in 2004 for attempting to knife his mother to death. His 11 1/2-year sentence was no different from the punishment a sane defendant would have received.

"That's bizarre, because one has nothing to do with another," said Hank Fradella, associate director of the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice at Arizona State University.

"It should be that you go under the care of psychiatric professionals until you're well enough to be out in society, and not causing a danger to you or me and our loved ones."

Fradella said that unlike most states, Arizona imposes the same sentence for the same crime even if the convict is declared criminally insane. Other states, he said, would impose a sentence of "one day to life" on a convict like Wakefield, because there's no way to know when the convict might be fit to return to society.

"Why would we let them out at an arbitrary number - five years, seven years , 10 1/2 years? It doesn't make a difference," Fradella said.

"The fact that the Arizona statute has tied what should be treatment to some concept of punishment is misguided. It's bad public policy."

As recently as eight months ago, Wakefield was serving out a term for attempted second-degree murder at the Arizona State Hospital for the criminally insane, according to documents on file with Arizona Psychiatric Security Review Board, which oversees convicts at the hospital.

Documents show the board ordered Wakefield back to the hospital last November after he violated his conditional release in the community. But the board apparently lost its authority over Wakefield as his sentence ended.
The board voted late last year to order the Maricopa County Attorney to begin commitment proceedings, documents show.

"Now we have to spend the money to go to court and adjudicate whether someone is a danger to themselves or others, when in fact, we've already had a trial," Fradella said.

Fine, chop off the bitches head but the dogs? Come on now!

Funny how I can watch people getting their heads lopped off all day long but if I even hear of dogs getting abused I get all freaked out and shit.
