Pitt Bull, Rottweiler Ban in Louisiana
A family in Moreauville is pleading with their village to overturn an ordinance that would force them to get rid of their beloved family pet. On October 13, the village passed an ordinance that states if you own a pit bull or a Rottweiler, you must get rid of it by December 1 or they will take it for "disposition." How many children will have to be maimed before the rest of the U.S. bans pit bulls?

Re: Pitt Bull, Rottweiler Ban in Louisiana
they'd do better to ban muslims...or cops... i'm sure both of those kill and maim more kids than pitbulls |

Re: Pitt Bull, Rottweiler Ban in Louisiana
Pointless, all the idiots that want a big aggressive dog will just go buy a mastiff or a pressa. Not everybody that has a pit is an idiot, far from it, but there is a certain segment of the population that owns one to intimidate people. IMHO the problem is the owners that don't know how to handle a dog like that. |

Re: Pitt Bull, Rottweiler Ban in Louisiana
Try not to cop bash so much and stay on topic. Ontario's pit bull ban has been 100 percent effective. Dog bites in general have be on a decline ever since the ban was passed in 2005. From 1982 to 2013, pit bulls or close mixes were responsible for 1,777 maimings, for 64 per cent of all such injuries in Canada and the United States. Fifty-one per cent of dog-related deaths (275) have been attributed to the breed, as have 67 per cent of attacks doing bodily harm (2,990). Don't get me wrong, Pits should NOT be banned just because of my personal experience. It's because hundreds of people have been killed by a breed that is responsible for a majority of attacks, despite making up a minority of the dog population. |

Re: Pitt Bull, Rottweiler Ban in Louisiana
The accuracy of dog bite statistics is quite shakey. If the person doing the reporting labels the dog wrong, it's innacurate. If the attack/bite isn't anything close to a pit bull, it may not get reported on, because it doesn't have enough buzz to warrant a story - which is innacurate to statistics. It's funny that people on here notice that black on white crime is ignored in the press, but don't see that it can and does happen with other things, such as dog bites and attacks done by non-buzz worthy dog breeds. Lots of mixes look like they could be pit bulls and aren't. I've heard other Canadians saying that dog bites haven't gotten better, only different dogs doing the biting. I guess it just depends on who's statistics you're looking at. |

Re: Pitt Bull, Rottweiler Ban in Louisiana
On another note: Isn't Louisiana where Tia(Pit Bulls &Parolees) moved all her dogs/shelter/sanctuary because of the hassle with California permits? I could swear she moved to New Orleans or something. Edit: so it's just a village in Louisiana, not a statewide problem. I missed that part. |
