Re: Pictures of the 6.0 Earthquake in North Italy
This is what happens to the countries which don't give a shit to what science and experience teached to us, ignorance and corruption at its best. Earthquakes cant' be foresaid BUT yet there's something you can do if you really want to save some lives: design building to withstand earthquakes and demolish all the others but historical ones. That's what italian laws say, but gets systematically ignored, that's why in Italy you die for an earthquake 30.000 times smaller than the one that hit Mexico this year (NO victims reported).

Re: Pictures of the 6.0 Earthquake in North Italy
Now after one of the hundreds of aftershocks, the watchtower (Torre dei modenesi aka Torre dell'orologio) is completely gone It was built in 1213. All the historical buildings of the area that has been stuck are lost forever. The chief of the unit for protection of Cultural Heritage said that "the earthquake has been as accurate as a surgeon", since it destroyed every single historical building: i rather don't look at the list of what we've lost forever because i'd cry |
