Passerby Breaks Tots Fall from 10 Stories
Toddler Saved From 10-Story Fall By Passerby Updated: Sunday, 03 Jul 2011, 9:50 AM CDT Published : Sunday, 03 Jul 2011, 9:50 AM CDT (NewsCore) - HANGZHOU, China -- A two-year-old Chinese girl who fell from a 10th-story window was miraculously saved by a brave passerby, the state-run Xinhua news agency reported Sunday. Wu Juping, 31, a mother of one, saw the child hanging out of the window in Hangzhou, the capital of eastern China's Zhejiang province, on Saturday and rushed to break the toddler's fall. The girl, named Niu Niu, had been left home alone at the time of the incident, Xinhua stated. Wu suffered from a broken arm where Niu Niu landed on her before hitting the grass. The two year old suffered from internal bleeding and remained in critical condition Sunday. Wu became a national heroine after news of her daring rescue was posted on Weibo -- China's equivalent to Twitter. Jin Dengfeng, the director of a hospital in the city of Fuyang, offered to treat the courageous mom free of charge after hearing her tale. "When she reached out to the child, she put her own life at risk," Jin said. "She could have died or been paralyzed for the rest of her life if the child had hit her head or back." Although she was still recovering in the hospital, Wu told Xinhua she did not have any regrets, adding, "I just hope that Niu Niu will recover." Re: Passerby Breaks Tots Fall from 10 Stories
Beijing: A Chinese toddler who fell 10 stories and survived after being caught by a passer-by woke up from a 10-day coma and called out to her parents, state media reported on Tuesday. The 2-year-old girl was left unattended and fell from her family's apartment window in eastern Zhejiang province on July 2. Xinhua News Agency said she opened her eyes on Tuesday after having been unconscious since the fall. "Her eyes opened slightly this morning, and she called out to her mom and dad when they entered the ward," Dr. Zhang Chenmei of Zhejiang Provincial Children's Hospital was quoted as saying. He added that the child made eye contact with her parents during their 30-minute meeting. The girl, named Zhang Fangyu but known by the nickname Niu Niu, was in critical condition with serious internal injuries when she was taken to hospital. Zhang said that her heartbeat, blood pressure and pulse were now normal and "we can assume she's out of danger." Earlier reports said Niu Niu was in the care of her grandmother when the older woman left the 10th-floor apartment outside the city of Hangzhou to run an afternoon errand. Neighbours saw Niu Niu dangling from the apartment window for several minutes before she fell. A 31-year-old mother, Wu Juping, ran to catch the child and saved her from hitting the ground. The impact knocked Wu out and she fractured her arm. http://www.ndtv.com/article/world/ch...om-coma-118709 |
