A Palestinian armed with a knife stabbed a Border Police officer in the vicinity of the Damascus Gate in Jerusalem. The victim is in serious condition.
A Palestinian armed with a knife stabbed a Border Police officer on Sunday morning in his upper body near the Damascus Gate in Jerusalem and seriously wounded him.
The wounded officer was able to take out his personal weapon and open fire at the terrorist, who was neutralized and critically injured as a result.
Magen David Adom (MDA) medical teams that arrived at the scene provided the 20-year-old terrorist and the 18-year-old victim with preliminary medical treatment and evacuated them to Shaare Zedek Medical Center.
"The Border Police officer is around 20 years old. We found him in critical condition with stab wounds in his upper body," Zaki Heller, MDA Spokesperson told. "He was treated on the scene and later in the ambulance and in the hospital's emergency room."
"When we arrived at the scene we found a young man in his 20's lying unconscious with several stab wounds in his upper body," MDA paramedic Aharon Edler, who treated the office, recounted.
Large police and ISA forces were called to the scene. An initial investigation of the incident suggests the stabber was nationalistically motivated.
However, it is unclear whether he was operating independently or whether he a terrorist organization had sent him.
