The eyes are unmistakeably those of an owl - but its surroundings are a little unusual, to say the least.

The bird was found alive and well behind the grille of a 4x4 after surviving being hit at 60mph.

And it was only discovered by the driver after she was flagged down by a fellow motorist who had spotted it.

Motorist Sonji Coney William, from Miami, Florida, said she had struck the unlucky Great Horned Owl the day before.

She said: "I was driving about 60 miles per hour and the bird never moved.

"I felt so bad (for hitting it) but it was very dark and we didn't pull over."

Incredibly, the animal was unharmed.
