So did you like it? I thought Citizen X was a better crime drama. But Child 44 was good for demonstrating the historical significance of the USSR belief system and how it impacted every facet of life. My husband liked the war part.

Someone made a comment earlier about a lot of Russian people being cannibals. I watched a documentary about cannibalism. It had Izzy Sagawa and Arthur Shawcross being interviewed but also discussed Chikatilo. There was an association between the famine and cannibalism. I think that may be why we see so many cannibalistic acts over there. Izzy Sagawa said it was because they played this game as a kid about being eaten by some monster. He was just a fucking freak

Yeah. I did like it.

An interesting movie on several levels.

It was quite a unique movie that defies easy categorization.

It doesn't fit neatly and/or completely into any other genre of which I am aware.

I couldn't quite 'peg it' which I can usually do.

At first, I though it would be just a better funded, more slickly produced remake of "Citizen X", but it wasn't.

There was major borrowing from the "Citizen X" story, but the dramatic commentary on Soviet life at the time (and probably to a large extent still to this day) was much more than a simple plot twist.

It was as if the dramatic commentary was the major theme while the child murders were the 'twist'.
