Re: Oklahoma Botches Clayton Lockett's Execution
The fact that innocent people have been and can be executed is the only thing that makes me not like the death penalty. What is the point of spending decades in prison until you die? I would rather have the death penalty. I don't want killers out in society possibly killing again. It's a complicated issue. I don't feel bad for Lockett. I'm sure his victim suffered being buried alive. But the Constitution prohibits cruel and unusual punishment. I don't know what they will do since they can't get their hands on that drug anymore.

Re: Oklahoma Botches Clayton Lockett's Execution
but thats just it.... u have to pick or not pick but dont swing both ways... how can u say innocent may die... and yet say... juice em! .. it does not make me feel good to know there is a death penalty... but it does make me sleep better, i understand that personal conflict.. but to not pick is just the same as letting a killer go "free", or burning the wrong man!

Re: Oklahoma Botches Clayton Lockett's Execution
What I mean is, if I were to commit a crime that was punishable by life in prison or the death penalty, I would rather get the death penalty. I don't feel bad for murderers getting killed but because there is often the chance of an innocent person getting killed the death penalty is too risky.

Re: Oklahoma Botches Clayton Lockett's Execution
It's been shown through statistics that places with Capitol punishment have the same crime statistics as places that don't. Social issues that effect crime rates is the X factor, not harsh sentences. No criminal would commit the crime if he/ she though they were going to get caught. In certain instances though, this being one of them, it's hard to say a person this brutal deserves to live. |

Re: Oklahoma Botches Clayton Lockett's Execution
One thing I really don't get is how the government tries to cover up the reality that death is harsh. So what if the guy is convulsing, burning or writhing around. The audience that came to witness It deserves to see the reality of what's happening, not just a censored version. I respect places where it's public a lot more, places where they decapitate in a stadium or hang them off a bridge, if there's nothing wrong with it, televise it.... Why not? All this poisoning ( lethal injection ), is just making it more palatable for the masses, less messy, less bloody, just like putting a dog down. |
