Re: Ohio Police Shoot and Kill 13 Year Old Boy Who Pulled Out a BB Gun
Thanks. I spent a couple of years as a Police/Fire/EMS/911 Dispatcher. You will never have more stress than when you hear "Weapon!" from one of your officers. Vehicle/Foot Pursuits suck, as do rural fires (because anything outside the city burns to the ground before the volunteer fire departments can respond.) But weapon calls are the absolute worst. The officers/deputies I worked with spent more time helping the communities they served than they ever did "oppressing" anyone. They're far from perfect, but they "protected and served" even when they were tired/sore/pissed/underpaid/overworked/etc/etc. Every one of these LEOs had families; every one of them had kids. I can't speak for every LEO out there, but I've never seen the ones I worked with mistreat any minority. If you're stupid, you get equal-treatment under the law. Tasers don't discriminate. |

Re: Ohio Police Shoot and Kill 13 Year Old Boy Who Pulled Out a BB Gun
It's not stressful all the time, but it can become very stressful very quickly. It's ironic that you called that position "noble". That's how I described it, because y'all would've been shocked to learn how little dispatchers make around here. Think Wal-Mart. At my dispatch, we did all the warrant and bond paperwork (as our dispatch center was located at the county jail.) I'd venture 60% of our job in dispatch was handling arrest warrants, warrant validations, warrant entry, CCW checks, etc. That, and our officers did not have MDTs (Mobile Data Terminals), so we ran all the 10-28/10-29 checks. Very busy, very necessary, but treated like janitors. Either way, that's history. I got R.I.F.ed (Reduction In Force) during the last re-org, so I'm onto new ventures, once I land one. Unless I get an offer from a higher-paying, better-organized LE org, I won't go back to LE dispatch. Been there, done that. |

Gott love how they needed to point out that the shooter was white and the slain kid black. People fuck around entirely too much these days. Should know better than to ever point anything that looks like a gun to anyone |
