When Kelly McGrevey went to Aloha Tanning salon to use her month-long tanning package, her regular stand-up bed was broken. The traditional beds were off limits to customers over 230 pounds, meaning she couldn't use them. She demanded her $70 membership fee back but was told, 'No.' Another area salon, Tanner's Tanning offered McGrevey a free month in any bed she chooses. "It's just disgusting. It's discrimination," said Jackie Gamble, owner of Tanner's Tanning. "I've busted an acrylic on the bed and I weigh 120 pounds. It really just depends where you put pressure at and $70, that's a lot of money to somebody." McGrevey has since received outpouring support through social media users. Aloha Tanning now claims it has issued a refund. Though McGrevey says she's not seen the cash yet. The tanning salon currently has an 'F' rating from the Better Business Bureau." /> Here is the link http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/video?id=9075660&pid=9075643 Tuesday, April 23, 2013 AKRON, OH (KTRK) -- A woman in Ohio was denied a refund after she was deemed, 'too fat to tan'. Re: OH Woman Told She Is Too Fat to Tan
They should have given her a refund. I bought a one month membership about 4-5 years ago. Never made me tan, but one time I got a burn on my back. Anyway, I'm not near this woman's weight but I always got in and out very gingerly because I was afraid I would put an elbow through the bed. How embarrassing and painful that would have been.

Re: OH Woman Told She Is Too Fat to Tan
Even a very thin girl defended her saying she broke one of the beds herself. I'm sure we all enter and exit in our own way. Only did it a few times in about 1985, but, never again! Anything can break at any time, but, you might be right, Angel! They may have tried to blame her to get her to pay toward a new one! |
